Holy Trinity Titans senior Jules Doliscar hooked his ankle around Ryan Malloy's leg and spun him quickly before flipping him onto his back, securing a win in stylish fashion on Tuesday at the state CHSAA wrestling tournament.

The win earned Doliscar (36-5) a state CHSAA championship in the 160-pound weight class and a spot at the State Federation Tournament in Rochester beginning March 8.

The Titans sent six wrestlers to the state CHSAA tournament at Chaminade and came away with two strong performances. Earlier in the day, sophomore Bryce Younger took sixth place in the 152-pound division. Then came the electric Doliscar.

For Doliscar, it was an impressive finish. He bounced around lightly with headphones on in a soft daze for a full hour before taking the mat. He was clearly nervous. It was billed as one of the tougher matchups of the day and you could sense his anxiety.

But once the bout began, it was no contest. Doliscar dropped his St. Joseph by the Sea opponent in the second period, a quick 3:40 win. Doliscar let loose a wide grin before walking off to congratulations from coaches and parents. Doliscar would have pinned Malloy in the first period, but time expired and the wrestlers reset.

Coach Mike Savello credits Doliscar's success to his intense conditioning and training. "He's technically very good and obviously very strong, but at the end of the year he was just in phenomenal shape."

Overweight as a freshman and never having wrestled before, Doliscar had to work to get where he is. He works year-round to stay in shape and plays football in the fall. But all that hard work has paid off.

And he'll have something else to brag about as he heads to Rochester for the State Federation Tournament — Doliscar took home the CHSAA MOW and recorded the fastest pin of the tournament at nine seconds.

The win was an important step forward for the Titans. They have a solid core of young players, led by Younger and junior Matthew DeLuca, and are poised for bigger things next year.
